Certainly not all state employees are bureaucrats, but if you let unions into the state employee hen house, things can only get messed up – for the employees and the taxpayers. Think about it – and if you've ever worked in state government – outside of law enforcement where the real state employee heroes are – it's a pretty darn good deal. You get great benefits, better than the private sector by and large, mandated breaks during the day, and a pace of work that is geared to your needs – not your bosses or the clients (in this case the taxpayer).
It's bad enough that when you go to get a copy of a public record – sometimes you have to show up with a box of candies, flowers, and roll of quarters to make the copies yourself. Can you imagine what a union will try and extract for employees from the state beyond what they already get? Imagine state government with even higher legacy cost? How would you pay for that – higher taxes baby.
