From the Houston Chronicle:
Lone legislators seldom get their way, especially in their first term, but even Bell said Wednesday that Huffman has a chance to mold state policy on issues where he took the opposing view during their campaign.
“You are not given a magic wand, but you are given a powerful seat in state government,” said Bell, a former U.S. House member. “And you can certainly have a big impact on the direction of the state if you play your cards right.”
Huffman won 56 percent of the 43,535 votes cast in the low turnout election in state District 17, which covers much of coastal Southeast Texas as well as southwest Harris County, according to the Texas Secretary of State’s Office.
