Although both Mr. Monserrate and his companion, Karla Giraldo, say that he accidentally cut her early Dec. 19 after tripping while carrying a glass of water, investigators were reviewing videotapes from security cameras at Mr. Monserrate’s building that suggest the two had been arguing, and this week they seized some of his drinking glasses for testing. Mr. Monserrate has been charged with second-degree assault, a felony, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison.
