Richmond, VA CBS-TV affiliate WTVR-TV may have just done something that in media circles is considered wildly taboo.
Our crack research team just came across this little oddly shaped nugget.
According the the Virginia Public Access Project, a Richmond based non-partisan/non-profit campaign finance watchdog group, WTVR-TV has contributed $1,250 to the Virginia Democratic Party. According to VPAP this contribution is not an in-kind of services – say for use of recording equipment or studio time – but is rather a cash contribution.
And it’s not VPAP who’s reporting this information. The Virginia State Board of Elections shows the same data.
There may be a very simple explanation for all of this, it’s just the public disclosure reports just aren’t showing it. We’re smelling lots of questions on this one…
UPDATE: 9/20/07 – I imagine there’s a call or two that are being made to CBS in New York, as well as to WTVR’s senior executives to get their take on all of this – would certainly help to clean all of this up.
I wonder how WTVR will react when a Republican campaign demands a Dem ad, that is factually inaccurate, be pulled down? So much for trust what they tell you on tv!
