From MTStandard.com:
The Obama administration and Congress are likely to give state lawmakers little voice in deciding how to spend anticipated federal stimulus money, Gov. Brian Schweitzer told the Legislature’s top two leaders Thursday.
“This money is going to arrive and it’s all going to have a little (ear)mark on it as to where it might go,” he told Senate President Bob Story, R-Park City, and House Speaker Bob Bergren, D-Havre.
Schweitzer, who spent several days in Washington, D.C., for the inauguration of President Barack Obama, said he discussed the federal stimulus package with a number of officials there.
Hmm…it appears that Montana’s Democrat Governor isn’t working off the same set of talking points that Democrat U.S. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi is working off of. Just 12 days ago she said the stimulus package would be earmark free. Hyperbole Prattle weighs in from Alaska on the issue. The friendly liberterians over at Reason dot org kick shine some light on a couple of earmarks themselves – and they’re Drew Carey fans!
