From Chron.com:
Gov. Rick Perry is expected to tell lawmakers today that the state’s economy can be best kept above water by keeping a tight state budget, revising the new franchise tax and by continuing the economic development funds his office uses to attract new business into the state.
Perry also is expected to use his biennial State of the State address to call for more robust funding for disaster relief to ensure that communities have money readily available when disasters such as Hurricane Ike strike.
And faced with dramatic college tuition increases made possible by a law he called for in 2003, Perry also is expected to propose ways to help students with higher education costs.
