Tedisco, a Schenectady Republican, held a brief news conference on the steps of the state Capitol building some three hours after Gillibrand was sworn in as the newest member of the U.S. Senate.
“I’ve always been the standard-bearer for the Republican party, but I’m very much honored now,” said Tedisco, who said he would remain in the Assembly during the upcoming special election.
