From the Richmond Times Dispatch:
Virginia Attorney General Robert F. McDonnell announced to his staff in an e-mail today that he is resigning to seek the Republican nomination for governor.
McDonnell spokesman J. Tucker Martin confirmed the authenticity of the e-mail but would make no further comment.
Martin said there would be a news conference later today.
McDonnell’s e-mail, sent to his staff this morning under the subject heading of “An Important Announcement,” said his resignation would be effective Feb. 20.
On a related note, McDonnell’s candidacy been the inspiration of at least two new blogs there in the commonwealth. Run Bob Run (also known as See Bob Run?), and Right Side VA for Bob McDonnell.
Some non-McDonnell focused blogs weigh in on his announcement, the VA Virtucon brings you the whole story, plus a personal note from McDonnell to the staff at the AGs office. Rappahanock Red sings McDonnell’s praises for doing what he calls the right thing.
