Voter ID always stirs up both sides wherever the matter is brought up. From My Fox:
Lawmakers applied the brakes Wednesday to a bill requiring voters to show government-issued photo identification at the polls. The House Constitution and Elections Committee voted 7-4, along party lines, to delay action on the bill, pushed by Attorney General Troy King and Republican legislators, after several Democrats complained it might discourage some poor and elderly people from voting.
The measure would require voters to show a driver’s license, non-driver’s identification card, passport, military ID or other federal or state government-issued identification to be able to vote.
Voting to delay the legislation were Democrats Tommy Sherer of Jasper, James Gordon of Mobile, Joseph Mitchell of Mobile, Mary Moore of Birmingham, Jack Page of Gadsden, Patricia Todd of Birmingham and committee chairman Jimmy Martin of Clanton.
