Florida Legislator Tries to Cut Off Controversial Organized Labor Bill

Hoping to head off a controversial organized-labor bill in Congress, two Republican legislators today introduced a constitutional amendment that would require secret ballots in union elections.

But the Florida AFL-CIO said the pending “Employee Free Choice Act” — a top priority of organized labor in Congress — poses no threat to workers’ rights to open elections. The state labor federation said the proposed constitutional amendment was really an attempt by large corporations to keep an advantage in union-representation elections.
