From WIBC:
Most of Governor Mitch Daniels’ push to streamline local government has run aground in the Senate, but House Republicans may try to revive some initiatives.
Senators could try Monday or Tuesday to amend a township-government bill to abolish townships, a proposal deleted in a Senate committee. If they don’t, House Minority Leader Brian Bosma (R-Indianapolis) says his caucus might — as long as the final say rests with local officials or a referendum.
“In some areas, the township government is very effective and efficient, and it’s closest to the people. In other areas, it’s a duplication of urban services that are offered,” Bosma says. “You’re going to see a real diverse opinion among legislators.”
