Christie, it turns out, represents the tip of the spear. Several other former U.S. attorneys also rate as rising GOP statewide talents, including J.B. Van Hollen, a former Bush appointee who was elected Wisconsin’s attorney general in 2006. Van Hollen is often mentioned as a prospective candidate for governor in 2010.
In Colorado, John Suthers — another Bush-appointed former U.S. attorney — recently disappointed some Republicans by announcing that he would seek reelection as attorney general in 2010, rather than run for governor or U.S. Senate.
