A measure co-sponsored by 66 of 120 NC House members required to go through 4 committees before it reaches the floor consideration.   Fascinating.  Maybe somebody should look to see who some noteworthy donors are to North Carolina Democrats and their allied groups.  Some pointers…maybe look for names from out of state like Tim Gill, Jon Stryker, Steven Bing, Annie and Rutt Bridges, David Bohnett, John Larsen, and Andrew Tobias for starters (You can learn more about this movement by reading this Time Magazine article).

There is little doubt that legislators heard the voices of thousands of Christian conservatives outside the Legislative Building yesterday pursuing a statewide vote on a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage.

There is also little doubt that the rally participants will not get what they want.

While voters in all other Southeastern states have approved state constitutional amendments restricting marriage between one man and one woman since 2004, North Carolina has declined to follow along. A combination of partisan strategy, steady opposition from gay-rights groups, and a lack of court challenges to state law has kept the issue off the ballot. And it is likely to stay off as long as Democrats run the General Assembly.
