From Examiner.com:
The governor’s $177,000 salary, third-most among governors, would be $159,300 – though Gov. Jennifer Granholm already is voluntarily giving back 10 percent of her pay this year. She returned 10 percent to the state treasury in her first year in office and 5 percent every year after.
“At a time when we are asking state employees to sacrifice, yet again, it is only fair that we lead by example,” the Democratic governor said in a statement.
She said she is disappointed the changes cannot take effect until the next term begins in 2011 – because of the process outlined in the Michigan Constitution – but she encouraged other officials to voluntarily give back some of their salary.
