“We really rely on individuals such as… investigative (reporters), people who have expertise in the area who look into it and say, ‘Here’s what’s important and what needs to be looked at, and advocacy groups that comb through it and put it in language that we understand,” Eisenstein said.

On a state level, the goals are more modest. Lt. Gov. Becky Skillman lays no claims that the state’s stimulus site represents a grand new rethinking of how the state will interact with the public.

“This is for Hoosiers to understand how the state is administering the federal stimulus dollars to give Hoosiers some confidence that we are doing everything we can to approve projects and programs that truly create jobs and that begin right away and that leave a lasting impact on our state.”
