Lisa Madigan will be front and center on a high profile national issue in the months ahead. She’ll be taking her millions in campaign cash already raised, and running for governor as the real reformer of Illinois politics. Some observers might look more closely at the way her campaign war chest was funded when she was a mere state senator with a influential last name in 2002 to see if she’s really the change Illinois can believe in, or just more of the same. From the Chicago Tribune:
Illinois’ two-term attorney general finds herself the subject of complex deliberations among Democrats and Republicans at all levels that could decide who will appear on ballots next year when all statewide offices are up before voters.
“I refer to it as the first domino,” Lisa Madigan, 42, said last week of how her decision on whether to stay put or run for governor affects others.
The office of governor is at the center of Illinois’ political maelstrom after the impeachment and indictment of Rod Blagojevich.
Madigan, daughter of the always-calculating, powerful House Speaker Michael Madigan, said she’s “a few more months” away from deciding whether to run for governor.
