Virginia Democrat LG Candidate Fails to Get Enough Signatures; Out of Race

Pat Edmonson will not be a Democratic candidate for the nomination to run for lieutenant governor.

The little-known Virginia Beach school board member failed to file the required 10,000 signatures with the State Board of Elections today to get her name on the ballot. Today was the deadline for filing to be a candidate in the June 9 primary.

Edmonson did not return phone calls, but she is said to be considering running for the state Senate seat in Virginia Beach that is being vacated by Kenneth W. Stolle, a Republican who is running for sheriff of Virginia Beach.

Filing today was Jon Bowerbank, a Russell County supervisor and businessman, who led all statewide candidates, including candidates for governor, with 18,133 signatures.
