This will make its way into another national publication, or late night comedy routine we’re afraid. From NewsOK:
Sen. Andrew Rice, D-Oklahoma City, stood in a suit and bare feet to introduce Senate Resolution 43, declaring Thursday “One Day Without Shoes.”
The resolution asked senators and staff to go without shoes for at least 10 minutes to raise awareness to infections and disease suffered by children in developing nations who often walk miles for basic services without shoes.
Without shoes, children get cuts and sores on their feet that can be infected and sometimes cause disfigurement, Rice said.
Rice’s resolution also recognized TOMS Shoes. For every pair of shoes purchased, the company donates a pair of shoes to children without shoes in developing countries.
Senators also poked fun at each other.
