The GOP is supporting two bills aimed at saving state money. They suggest builders stop paying what they call above-market wages to workers at school construction sites. They also support another measure that puts state transactions online.
“Before we raise taxes on people that are in a poor position to afford it, we should be doing everything we can to cut our expenses,” said House Minority Whip Rep. Danny Short, R-Seaford.
The Republican proposal comes at a time when legislators are trying to close a $780 million shortfall in next year’s budget, which must be balanced in nine weeks.
