From Chattanooga Times Free Press:
State Rep. Robert Bentley of Tuscaloosa said today he will seek the Republican nomination for governor.
He is officially expected to announce his candidacy during a series of news conferences during a statewide bus tour today and Thursday.
Bentley, 66, has represented Tuscaloosa County in the Alabama House since 2002. He said his experience as a Tuscaloosa dermatologist would aid him as governor “because I understand how Alabamians think.” He said he is using his own money for the bus tour.
“Practicing medicine gives you a unique insight into the lives of people. You sit in a room all day and listen to your patients’ problems. One of the closest relationships people can have is with their doctor,” Bentley said.
