WA: Signs of an AG McKenna Governor Run? Names New Chief of Staff

Washington would be well served with a Republican leader like Rob McKenna as their next Governor.  Truth be told, he’s a Republican in very blue Washington who has won statewide not once, but twice in years that were very big Democrat years (see Bush vs. Kerry 2004 and McCain vs. Obama 2008).  From SeattlePi.com:

Attorney General Rob McKenna has tapped a savvy Republican strategist and businessman as his new chief-of-staff, an appointment sure to raise talk that the AG is planning a run for governor.

Randy Pepple was chief of staff to Republican U.S. Rep. (1994-2000) Rick White, and later served as CEO of Rocky Hill & Knowlton, the Seattle branch of one of America’s largest public affairs and strategy firms.

Pepple is known to the public as sparring partner with Democratic consultant Cathy Allen on KCTS-TV and Seattle Channel public affairs programs.

In announcing Pepple’s appointment, McKenna praised his “management, strategic planning, public policy and communications experience.”
