The Illinois Press Association announced Thursday that it will support the rewrite of the Illinois Freedom of Information Act as drafted by Attorney General Lisa Madigan.
The IPA, which represents the Illinois newspaper industry, participated in Madigan’s negotiations of the rewrite and voiced concern Wednesday when what it views as a much weaker version of the FOIA reform was circulated by Illinois House and Senate Democratic staff.
The House and Senate draft would do away with much of the badly needed reworking of the state’s weak public access law, according to the association.
