Lt. Governor Kinder Celebrates Older Americans Month
ST. LOUIS – Lt. Governor Peter Kinder today joined Missouri’s senior population to celebrate the month of May at National Older Americans Month.
“Missouri seniors have amazing stories to tell,” said Lt. Governor Kinder. “Many seniors throughout our state are giving so much back to their communities. Through volunteer service and advocacy groups, older Missourians inspire all of us with their selfless actions.”
Lt. Governor Kinder serves as the official advocate for Missouri’s senior population. During an Older Americans Month event in St. Louis today, the Lt. Governor discussed his dedication to protecting and advocating for Missouri’s senior population.
In 2007, Lt. Governor Kinder worked with legislators to establish the Missouri RX Drug Plan. The plan was created to provide prescription drug assistance to Missourian’s in need by coordinating benefits with Medicare’s Part D Prescription Drug Program.
Last year, Lt. Governor Kinder worked alongside the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services to launch Project MOSAFE (Missourians Stopping Adult Financial Exploitation). MOSAFE educates financial institutions and consumers on how to stop attempted or ongoing financial exploitation of a senior.
President John F. Kennedy designating May 1963 as Senior Citizens Month, encouraging the nation to pay tribute in some way to older citizens across the country. The designation has since been changed to Older Americans Month, but it has continued to be celebrated during the month of May for the past 46 years.
