Attorney General Mike Cox officially is running for Michigan governor.
He enters a crowded Republican field hoping to replace Democratic Gov. Jennifer Granholm, who can’t run for re-election in 2010 because of term limits.
The 47-year-old Cox was elected attorney general in 2002, the first Republican to win the post in half a century. He was re-elected in 2006. The Livonia resident formerly worked for the Wayne County prosecutor’s office.
Other Republicans already running are U.S. Rep. Pete Hoekstra of Holland and state Sen. Tom George of Kalamazoo County’s Texas Township.
