SPRINGFIELD — The Illinois House and Senate took action on several fronts Wednesday, overriding vetoes handed down earlier by Gov. Rod Blagojevich. An effort to require a moment of silence at the start of each school day got a boost in the Illinois Senate.
In action Wednesday, the Senate voted 42-9 to override Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s veto of the proposal. The proposal, sponsored by Senate Minority Leader Frank Watson, R-Greenville, would keep intact a tax increment financing district in the village that was otherwise set to expire.
With little explanation, Gov. Rod Blagojevich vetoed the proposal earlier this year. His action is expected to be overridden when the matter is taken up in the House next week.
