From DesMoinesRegister:
Many Iowa Republicans are seeing something for the first time: Their party chairman in their town.
New state GOP chairman Matt Strawn is getting high marks for traveling the state and rallying local activists. But he has a long way to go before he can say he has rebuilt the party precinct-by-precinct, as he has promised.
Fewer Iowans identify with the Republican Party than in more than a decade. The party has lost back-to-back general elections, it trails Democrats in registered voters and is fighting openly about the role its social agenda ought to play.
