From RPOF:
The three biggest races in 2010 will be fights over the governorships of California, New York and Florida. Especially high are the stakes in the Florida race because Florida’s governor plays a pivotal role in congressional redistricting. The primary fields seem to be clearing fast for two evenly matched, heavyweight punchers who are familiar to voters state-wide: Republican Bill McCollum, the former congressman and current attorney general, and Democrat Alex Sink, the current state Chief Financial Officer. The tab for their race is expected to be $50 million at a minimum.
I spoke to Mr. McCollum about the race and his policy priorities last Friday. He earned high marks for his crime-fighting as Florida’s A.G., especially in reducing gang-related and youth violence. Conservatives will be pleased to hear that one of his first objectives will be to fix the state’s controversial “Catastrophe Fund,” which puts state taxpayers on the hook for hurricane and flood damage to private property. Dramatically expanded under current Governor Charlie Crist, a Republican who is now running for the U.S. Senate, the fund in four short years has accumulated $20 billion in unfunded liability.
