If she gets in, she’ll clear the decks. Her money, influence, and name ID would make for a fight that ugly would just begin to describe. Who’s the most excited about this development? Governor Pat Quinn will be saying nothing but positive things about Lisa Madigan – just make sure he’s not the reason she chooses to run for Governor. Click on the image below to see a local T.V. news report on all of this. From Chicago Public Radio:
The race in Illinois for the Democratic nomination for U.S. Senate is starting to get ugly. This follows Attorney General Lisa Madigan’s meeting with President Barack Obama about making a run for his former Senate seat.
A Madigan aide says the attorney general met with the president and his top advisors in Washington last Friday. The meeting included talk of the U.S. Senate seat now held by Roland Burris.
State Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias has already launched a vigorous campaign for the Democratic nomination, and – as a friend and basketball pal of the president’s – reacted strongly to news of the White House meeting. In a statement, Giannoulias says anyone seeking the Senate seat needs to have ideas to fix the economy, not just “the political clout to demand a clear field and win appointment.”
