From the Anchorage Daily News:
State Rep. John Harris says he’s preparing to file paperwork for a bid to run for governor. The 51-year-old Republican from Valdez says he expects to file with the Alaska Public Offices Commission on today or Wednesday.
Gov. Sarah Palin announced Friday she would resign at the end of the month. Lt. Gov. Sean Parnell is expected to be sworn in July 26 and said he would run in 2010. Harris is a former Valdez mayor. He was elected to the House in 1998 and served as speaker from 2005 to 2008.
He says that if he’s elected, he hopes to establish better lines of communication with people who help make decisions, especially lawmakers.
