From the DesMoinesRegister:
Iowa Senate Minority Leader Paul McKinley plans “to start aggressively exploring a run for governor,” the Chariton Republican told The Des Moines Register today.
McKinley said he plans to file the paperwork within the next day to begin raising and spending money toward a 2010 bid, and would join three other Republicans hoping to be chosen to challenge Democratic Gov. Chet Culver next year.
“We must prepare our state for the global economy and give Iowans back their government,” McKinley said.
McKinley said he would stress job growth, spending restraint and stricter educational standards, using competitiveness as his campaign’s theme.
