From Fayette County News:
The first true litmus test for candidates seeking statewide office in 2010 came this week in the form of mandatory campaign fundraising reports.
Republican and Democratic candidates for governor, lieutenant governor and a host of other state-level offices filed with the State Ethics Commission Tuesday, disclosing the amount of money raised during the reporting period that ended June.
According to the ethics commission’s website, Republican U.S. Rep. and gubernatorial candidate Nathan Deal led all fundraisers with almost $1.24 million in contributions.
Fellow Republican Eric Johnson came in second with $962,773 raised.
Secretary of State Karen Handel came in third among governor hopefuls with $431,187.
