From El Paso Inc.:
On the Republican side, many are waiting to see if Sen. Hutchison will resign her Senate seat to run for governor against Perry.
And if she does, who will line up to campaign for her job in the Senate? One possibility is Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst, which makes many in Austin wonder if Attorney General Greg Abbott would then run to replace Dewhurst. And who would run to replace Abbott?
Some aren’t standing by and waiting. A former solicitor general, Republican Ted Cruz, says he’s running for attorney general as long as Abbott doesn’t seek re-election. Reports say that Cruz has already raised more than $1 million. Rep. Dan Branch (R-Dallas) has also said he might consider running.
