From Tulsa World:
Oklahoma state Rep. Ken Miller took another campaign step on Thursday as he eyes the state’s top financial post ahead of the 2010 election. The Republican, who chairs the House Appropriations and Budget Committee, has not officially announced that he will run for state treasurer but said he formed a steering committee to help prepare for a possible campaign.
He said he wouldn’t raise or spend more than $500 to comply with Oklahoma Ethics Commission rules, which bar further fundraising until he announces his candidacy and files the necessary paperwork.
Miller, 42, from Edmond, is the second Republican to express interest in becoming Oklahoma’s chief banker. Former state Sen. Owen Laughlin, R-Woodward, has also said he plans to campaign for the position next year.
