SD: Meet the State’s New Attorney General

U.S. Attorney for South Dakota Marty Jackley will become the state’s attorney general Sept. 4.

Jackley, who will succeed Larry Long, was appointed Wednesday by Gov. Mike Rounds. Rounds appointed Long on July 30 as a judge in the Second Judicial Circuit.

Jackley was named U.S. attorney in 2006 by President Bush, but has been transitioning out of that office since July 11, when President Obama nominated Sen. Tim Johnson’s son Brendan Johnson to succeed him.

Jackley’s appointment runs through the 2010 election. He said he will make an announcement on whether he plans to run for another term.
