MA: Former Lt. Governor to run for Vacant Senate Seat?

Meanwhile, another name emerged yesterday as a possible contender. Republican Kerry Healey, the lieutenant governor under Mitt Romney who lost her gubernatorial bid to Patrick three years ago, is eyeing a run for the seat, according to a source familiar with her thinking. Healey has been in touch with the state Republican Party about a potential candidacy.

“She’s looking at it,’’ said the source, speaking on the condition of anonymity because of the sensitivity of the issue. “She is talking to family and thinking about all of the different things involved, what it would take to run.’’

If Healey enters the race, it would add a well-known GOP name to a field that could include, on the Democratic side, several members of the US House and Attorney General Martha Coakley.

“We are talking to several different candidates,’’ Tarah Donoghue, a spokeswoman for the state GOP, said yesterday.
