From TimesLeader.com:
Republicans in the state Senate said Sunday night they’re hopeful of getting Gov. Ed Rendell on board with a tentative $28 billion budget deal that he has threatened to veto.
Senate Majority Leader Dominic Pileggi said after a two-hour meeting with Rendell that lawmakers are going to see if there’s a way to accommodate the Democratic governor’s concerns.
On Friday, three of the Capitol’s four caucuses announced an agreement in principle to end the 2 1/2 -month-old budget impasse. Rendell and House Republicans objected to the deal, but for different reasons.
Rendell said it doesn’t realistically address a potential budget deficit next year, and doesn’t spend enough on education and other programs.
