Senate Majority Leader Derek Schmidt (R-Ind.) announced Wednesday that he is entering the race to become the state’s next Attorney General. The seat is currently held by Steven Six, a Lawrence who was appointed by former Gov. Kathleen Sebelius following Paul Morrison’s resignation.
“The principal (sic) focus of my service in the Senate has been making Kansas a safer and more secure place to live, work and raise a family,” said the state Senator.
“This work is not done and I remain committed to it. This is where I can make the greatest difference for our state over the next four years.”
Schmidt says he spent the past few months traveling around the state and listening to the concerns of Kansans. He hired a campaign treasurer in July.
