A longstanding frustration for South Dakota Democrats is finding candidates who can win the state’s constitutional offices.
Where Democrats are badly lacking of late is putting one of their own in the coveted Governor’s Mansion.
That hasn’t happened since Lt. Gov. Harvey Wollman of Hitchcock ascended to the office of chief executive in 1978. Wollman inherited the job when Gov. Dick Kneip resigned his seat after being named ambassador to Singapore.
