From DelawareOnline:
When Beau Biden returns from a 12-month tour in Iraq this week he will face an immediate task that may remind him of the first few days after his election as Delaware’s attorney general two years ago.
The man who stood in for Biden during his Delaware National Guard stint — Richard S. Gebelein — will step down at the end of the month, leaving Biden to quickly pick up the reins he left to the man he chose for his chief deputy in 2006.
Gebelein has been acting attorney general since Biden was deployed to Iraq with the Guard’s 261st Signal Brigade in October 2008. His departure was timed to coincide with Biden’s return from active duty.
Gebelein’s last day will be on or just before Biden’s first day back, according to Department of Justice spokesman Jason Miller. “There will be continuity,” Miller said.
