Former Attorney General Jim Ryan has formed an exploratory committee and is thinking about running for governor of Illinois.
The Elmhurst Republican just commissioned a poll that showed him way ahead of the little-known Republicans who have so far declared themselves candidates for governor.
Ryan polled 29 percent of the 500 likely GOP primary voters, with the next-closest candidate, state Sen. Bill Brady of Bloomington, coming in at 10 percent, according to results Ryan’s camp supplied.
Ryan, 63, was the GOP nominee for governor in 2002, losing to Rod Blagojevich. Brady came in third in the GOP primary three years ago.
Former Republican Party Chairman Andy McKenna and state Sen. Kirk Dillard both pulled 4 percent in Ryan’s poll.
