From Red County:
Sen. Kirk Dillard, a DuPage Republican and candidate for governor, said if elected governor he would veto any redistricting plan that did not have the support of Republican legislative leaders.
In a letter sent to every Republican member of the Illinois legislature, Dillard said the redistricting process should not be in the hands of lawmakers, but in the hands of “an independent panel utilizing a computer program that will drawn clear and concise boundaries free from political interference by any political party or person.”
Redistricting is a process of redrawing legislative lines based on population shifts. It is conducted every 10 years following the census.
