From FortWayne.com:
The top priority on the General Assembly’s agenda next year matches many Hoosiers’ top personal priority: making ends meet.
“We’ve pledged to stand together as leadership, both sides, against new spending,” said Senate President Pro Tem David Long, R-Fort Wayne. “We’ll get through this, and Indiana will be strong coming out of this recession.”
Long was one of eight northeast Indiana state legislators – seven Republicans and one Democrat – who appeared Wednesday night at the Greater Fort Wayne Chamber of Commerce Legislative Preview. It provided Chamber leaders a chance to present a lobbying agenda to legislators. The lawmakers, in turn, offered their predictions on the issues that would occupy the General Assembly during next year’s short session.
It was no surprise that keeping spending within the state’s rapidly diminishing means is a high priority. Only last week, Gov. Mitch Daniels announced another round of cuts in state spending, including $150 million less for higher education.
