But the Austin restaurant owner showed less than $7,000 on his first campaign finance report – and more than $5,000 of that came from himself.
Katz says he changed his mind about taking a bunch of money from out-of-state-family because the plan backfired.
“The negativity on that was massive. It made me very unpopular, so I had to take my head out of the sand,” Katz said of supporters who poured cold water on the idea.
