State House Win is 13th Republican Gain Since November 2008
ALEXANDRIA, VA – Less than a month after holding a Republican state senate seat, Granite State Republicans have scored another special-election victory, this time taking away a state house seat from the Democrats. Republican John Tholl was elected to the New Hampshire House of Representatives, yesterday, after running a campaign based on lower taxes, less spending and smaller government.
Tholl captured the seat formerly held by Democrat Scott Merrick. As the nation’s largest caucus of Republican state leaders, the Republican State Leadership Committee congratulated Tholl and welcomed his focus on common sense, conservative solutions.
“John Tholl ran an excellent campaign based on the principles that have been sweeping Republicans into elected office for the last 16 months,” said RSLC President Scott Ward. “The vision of cutting taxes and reigning in spending resonated with the voters in New Hampshire, and he will be the advocate they need in the state house.”
Since November of 2008, Republicans have won 50 state legislative special elections across the country. Republicans have now gained 13 seats that were previously held by Democrats in the same time period.
The Republican State Leadership Committee (RSLC) is the only national organization whose mission is electing Republicans to the office of Attorney General, Lieutenant Governor, Secretary of State and State Legislator. In 2009, Republicans swept all three statewide offices in the Commonwealth of Virginia for the second time in state history and increased the Republican majority in the House of Delegates by six seats.
During the 2008 elections, the RSLC helped maintain the number of elected Republican Attorneys General and Lieutenant Governors. The organization also delivered new Republican majorities in the Montana, Oklahoma and Tennessee state senates, as well as an unprecedented majority in the Tennessee House of Representatives. The RSLC has more than 80,000 donors from all 50 states.
