It looks like the battle
for the Lt. Governor office in
the Fall. Based off recent comments
by Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, it appears as though
there will be no special election to fill the vacant Lt. Governor seat in
interested parties seem to think it would be better (and cheaper) to just wait
a few more months.
“Republican and
Democrat officials say they're not making plans for any special election and
will wait to see what Huckabee does. But neither
seemed eager for a special election as the general election nears. ‘It's
so close to an election time anyway that you'll have to deal with the
additional expense of having a separate election,’ said Jason Willett,
chairman of the state Democrats. ‘I don't see any party benefiting from a
race.’ Clint Reed, executive director of the state GOP, said the party is
still mourning the loss of Rockefeller and said no one within the party is
pushing for an immediate replacement. ‘There's not an urgent call across
the state to fill this replacement, so we feel like it's not urgently needed,’
Reed said. ‘It's not something that is a front burner issue for us.’
