Buried in Today’s Washington Post article titled Va. Democrats Get Financial Boost From Labor, Business is a mention of a Democrat mega-donor named Jon Stryker. Jon Stryker might be new to Virginia, but he’s an old hand in flooding state legislative races with thousands of dollars to help elect candidates who support his issue. We actually blogged on Mr. Stryker, and the leader of the Political Out Giving realm – Denver’s Tim Gill – originally back in April with an audio post, and then again in June of this year with a follow up.
From the Post:
The House Democratic caucus also received a six-figure check this month.
Jon Stryker of Kalamazoo, Mich., whom Forbes also lists as a billionaire, gave the caucus $100,000 Friday. Stryker has been helping Democratic state legislative candidates across the country because he is upset about constitutional amendments banning gay marriage, which Virginia voters approved last year.
Organized labor is proving to be the major source of Democrats’ money during the waning days of the campaign.
We’re willing to bet that Stryker’s money isn’t near the last of the out of state money for House and Senate races in Virginia. Keep a sharp eye on the VPAP reports for identical contributions from individual donors to multiple House and Senate campaigns. We’re willing to wager that candidates with last names like Barker, Oleszek, and Petersen will be on the receiving end of contributions from places like great Los Angeles, Dallas, Miami, Boston, Chicago, and the Big Apple.
The Out Giving season starts now, and ends on Election Day.
