Earlier we talked about incoming Florida House Speaker Marco Rubio’s “100 Innovative Ideas” and the effort he was putting into getting input from all Floridians on what they want their government to be doing for them.

Well, that effort has come to a brilliant close last week at its 2006 Policy Summit attended by over 500 elected officials, policy leaders, and lobbyists from across the everglade state and nation. 

In his remarks during the summit Rubio said:

''I don't believe we can solve that through slogans,'' Rubio told the crowd. “I don't believe we can solve that through mailers. I don't believe we can solve that through political campaigns.''

You can solve it through leadership, he said. That involves “telling people what they need to hear, not what they want to hear. . . . Leadership involves having a vision for the future and a plan on how to get there. . . . And, when you get there, carry it out.''

The Miami Herald article says that after his remarks the crowd gave Rubio a standing ovation.

Positive vision, concrete ideas, accountability – that's how Republicans win elections.
