AZ: Dem AG Candidates Would Support Migrant Law

The three Democrats running for Arizona attorney general said they would enforce the state’s new immigration law if it is not struck down by court challenges.

David Lujan, Felecia Rotellini and Vince Rabago separately said they do not support the new law and think it won’t stand up to court scrutiny, contending it oversteps state authority by enforcing what is a federal law. But all three said they would enforce it if it is deemed constitutional when the courts weigh in.

The three discussed immigration and other state issues at a Saguaro Eastside Democrats debate Monday night. All three have been assistant attorneys general in Arizona.

Lujan stayed out of the fray as Rotellini and Rabago took shots at each other regarding the payday-lending industry. The law that allows short-term, high-interest loans is scheduled to expire on July 1, but the candidates talked about the changes those in the industry may make to keep operating after the deadline.
