MI AG: More than meets the eye…

So it’s finally bubbling up to the surface.  Michigan Democrat AG candidate Scott Bowen has been the odds on favorite to secure the Democrat nomination at his party’s upcoming nomination convention…until now.  Apparently gubernatorial politics are clouding things up a bit for the pro-life former judge.  Several months ago former Detroit police officer Amos Williams got into the race against Williams – much the surprise of Bowen who was widely viewed as the hand picked favorite of incumbent Governor Jennifer Granholm. This was before the GOP governor candidate, Dick Devos, began to really catch on and seriously threaten Granholm’s hold on the office.

Now it appears the lock that Bowen had on the nomination may have been picked.

It starts with Devos.  With his passing Granholm on the ballot her attention is suddenly turned towards Motor City, that’s Detroit, and the need to start up that political machine.  Sadly, the man with the keys is none other than the current Mayor – Kwame Kilpatrick.  A man with not a lot of love for the Governor – and a willingness to help about equal.  She needs someone who can start the Detroit political machine, and that’s where Amos Williams comes in.  He has the profile to turn out the core Detroit vote that Kwame won’t happily do, and that Bowen flat can’t deliver.

The AGs nomination comes down to gubernatorial politics or preservation folks.

Now Bowen is pro-life, and many Democrats are using that as cover for all of the sudden losing interest in the man – but he’s been pro-life all along. And, the word is that some of the local union endorsements that Bowen’s scooped up are all of a sudden drying up – kind of makes you wonder…

The Republican incumbent AG is Mike Cox, and he’s got to be loving this.

Stay tuned.
