This is a big deal.
The Kansas Chamber of Commerce Political Action Committee has endorsed Republican Attorney General Phill Kline over his Democratic challenger, Johnson County District Attorney Paul Morrison.
The chamber, with some 10,000 member businesses, is the state's largest business organization. This is the first time the group's PAC has endorsed a statewide candidate.
You don’t get more mainstream in a state than a local Chamber of Commerce endorsement– and that’s the beginning of problems for Democrat candidate Paul Morrison in his bid to defeat Republican Attorney General Phill Kline. The entire premise of Morrison’s campaign is that he’s the mainstream candidate and Kline is not.
Morrison’s campaign couldn’t gin up any better response than in effect – “me too, me too, what he said!”
This is the first significant beat in what will ultimately be a steady beat of Phill Kline, and not Paul Morrison, is the candidate most in touch with the Kansas mainstream.
Paul Morrison’s arsenal appears to be limited to a single issue – everything else is going to be me too or what he said.
Irony watchers beware – Paul Morrison – who will spend the campaign attacking Phill Kline as a single issue candidate – will wind up himself – the single issue candidate himself.
